The Angelus is a call to prayer, accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell. Originated from 11th century Franciscan monasteries, it is a Christian devotion in memory of the Incarnation.
Latin for "angel," its’ name is derived from the incipit: “The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary." Three Bible verses are recited, each followed by a "Hail Mary.”
